Lucien Harriot is a Creative Producer, VFX Supervisor and AI workflow strategist with three decades of experience bridging storytelling, visual effects, animation and emerging technology. He is the founder and president of Mechanism Digital, a New York City–based visual effects and animation studio he established in 1996. Lucien has led multidisciplinary teams creating visual effects, 3D animation, motion design and interactive experiences for feature films, television, advertising, medical education and experiential media. His approach combines creative development with practical production planning, helping clients explore and compare ideas early, identify the right techniques for each project and carry a clear visual direction from concept through finishing. Today, much of his work focuses on integrating generative AI into established film and animation pipelines. He develops workflows that combine AI image and video generation with traditional previs, animation, compositing, editing and VFX production. He is particularly interested in using AI as a collaborative production tool—accelerating ideation, visualization and iteration while maintaining creative direction, cinematic language, continuity and human authorship. He has presented dozens talks and webinars on the use of AI in visual effects, animation, filmmaking, music, voice production, writing and production management, and wrote the chapter on artificial intelligence and visual effects to the fourth edition of the VES Handbook of Visual Effects. A member of the Visual Effects Society and Producers Guild of America, Lucien brings the perspective of both a hands-on visual artist and a studio leader. His strengths lie in connecting creative ambition with technical execution, assembling the right teams and workflows, and helping filmmakers navigate the rapidly evolving possibilities of AI-assisted production.
